“There is often an assumption that we use authentic materials because they provide examples of real language. But I would suggest that there is a more fundamental reason than that: authentic materials are where we find the best stories. But if it’s the story that we are attracted to in the first place, too often it’s the story that we neglect in the classroom. In this talk, I would like to suggest a practical approach to authentic materials and offer some original teaching ideas along the way “.
