FREE ETAG WEBINAR N3 “The American Education System: Structure and Educator Career Paths” by Dr. Robert D. Leier (U.S. Department of State) and Dr. Laureen A. Fregeau (University of South Alabama) was held on November 27.
The presenters discussed the Structure of American education and the procedure in studying abroad in the United States.
They presented the different structural levels of management and responsibility of public education at the federal, state, and local levels. This includes elementary and secondary school levels (pre-K, K-4, middle school, intermediate, secondary/high school, post-secondary that consist of junior colleges, community colleges, 4-year colleges, liberal art institutions and universities at the comprehensive and research tier levels. Both of them provided examples of what these institutions looked like by describing and showing various formal level classrooms that included resources, materials, and technology, especially featuring the ESL and Foreign language learning.
American education terminology was used throughout the webinar which included terms such as elementary school, middle school, intermediate school, high school, community college, junior college, college, university, teacher aide, resource teacher, classroom teacher, instructor, lecturer, adjunct, visiting, assistant, associate and full professor levels.
Finally they discussed the process of applying to study abroad in the United States at an institution of higher education.
Webinar was attended by 59 teachers from all over Georgia.
